Sooo, I saw RBD's post on the dog breed selector in the "Is a Vizsla right for me" thread.

http://redbirddog.blogspot.com/2011/05/vizsla-right-dog-for-you.html

I own a V and am addicted to the forums, but nervously took the assessment. What would the recommend for me? Surprisingly Vizsla was #6 (higher than expected).

My other breeds were:

1) Field Spaniel
2) Ibizan Hound
3) German Pinscher
4) Pointer
5) Canaan Dog
6) Vizsla

I checked out the other breeds and for most of them, there are reasons why we didn't choose them (chasing instinct, tendency towards aggression towards small animals, thicker coat, etc.) The field spaniel we had never even looked into though.

Just for fun, anyone else take the test?

I did also :)

Had the Weim, GSP, Lab, Pointer, Setters in the list and V also... although V was not top spot, he's worked out great for us and I couldn't not imagine wanting any other breed. Did meet the breeder and went to see some GSPs, and Great Dane (although Dane had multiple health issues and didn't meet my running expectations).
It came down to a liver GSP vs Vizsla... so I read alot on both breeds. I think there are threads on the GSP vs V here..

Chose the V for the following reasons:

1-Temperament: wants to please, social (not a guard dog..), eventual kids in the family
2-Health: relatively healthy breed
3-Size: wanted medium sized dog
4-Active: wanted an eventual partner for running, hiking, outdoorsy dog
5-Intelligence: wants to be challenged, will learn anything
6-Hunting: driven to work and exceptionally loyal to their master
7-They are awesome! :)

Oh well! I'm keeping him anyway ;D

I entered my answers to how I felt prior to Otto. My bf and I were talking yesterday about how we would probably never want a long haired dog after Otto --- but then again -- we probably would't want any dog but a V! But before Otto, length of coat didn't matter much to me.

I thought it was interesting that the Treeing Walker Coonhound, the Vizsla, and the Bluetick Coonhound were high on my list... and in my lifetime I have owned each of those breeds! Pretty good quiz, then. ;)

p.s. I am not a hunter, either.
