Hi there! Our family brought home a nine week old Vizsla puppy at the end of August. She's now almost 16 weeks old and I'm finally getting around to introducing myself here, even though I've been lurking and benefitting from y'all's good advice for the last few week!

Vivian (Vivi) is our first Vizsla pup. Previously we owned a lab/border collie mix for 13 years. We adopted her at around a year old, and she suffered from intense anxiety after being abandoned by two prior families who were not able to handle her high energy and destructive behavior. We were able to help control her anxiety with intense exercise (both my husband and I are runners - from about 1 year old until 6 years old, she was running about 15 miles a day between runs with both of us). She finally mellowed around age 7 :) After our lab passed a few years ago, we decided we wanted a Vizsla but waited a few years so our kids would be older.

I felt pretty prepared for Vizsla after our lab, and so far, I'd say it's pretty comparable. Our Vizsla pup has a similar energy level, but she's not nearly as anxious. She's also the biggest love. Cuddling with her in the evening is the best part of my day! We're excited to watch her grow and to be able to run with her when she's ready.

We have two kiddos, 9 and 5 years old. When we got our lab, we didn't have kids, so it's been an adjustment/adventure to teach the kids about how to encourage good behavior and curtail the bad. I can definitely see that puppies and kids are not for everyone! However, our breeder did a good job of picking a puppy for us that's kid friendly!

So far she's doing great with potty training and knows a bunch of commands (way faster learner than our lab!). We start obedience school next week after her last round of shots. Her only issue is around 6pm she becomes a nightmare of jumping, biting, chewing until she finally collapses around 7pm for the night! I am hoping this witching hour doesn't last too much longer! She also HATES the rain and we live in a very rainy climate, so we'll see how that goes!

Nice to meet you all! Love seeing the pictures of all your lovely Vs!

I love the name Vivian, it's so vividly metaphorical! Buckle up, Our resident Lab expert Tegee will confirm that a Lab and a Vizsla have a tail in common and that's about it.

How about some pics of the lil darlin'?

Congratulations, on adding a Vizsla to your family.
Very common for them to have a witching hour.
Their last hurrah before they crash, a sign that they are tired, and need sleep.
I hope we get to see pictures of vivi.
