Hi all, our Hungarian Vizsla bitch is almost 18 months, we are unsure if she has had a season yet. Symptoms of enlarged nipples, wandering more, less responsive when out, swollen vulva but no bleeding, not even spotting.

We don’t want to breed but want her to have at least one season before spaying.

I guess my question is would you always notice bleeding? If not how else can we tell?

Thanks in advance

It might just be the lead up to the big show if in doubt, you can put a diaper on her overnight. Shofe is very meticulous about keeping herself clean when she is in heat and there were only a few drops of blood here and there. Enough to notice, though. She did lick herself and would salivate and chatter her teeth before and during her actual cycle.

We didn't notice the bleeding hardly at all, our Stella would keep herself very clean. She is 15 mo now. Shortly after her season, I thought she was possibly pregnant, her mammary glands had filled in, nipples were large and swollen, turns out it was just a phantom (false) pregnancy, which I guess is very common. We got her spayed and all is good now. Everything has gone back to normal.
