In search of a new vizsla

Hi,
Earlier this week my 8 year old vizsla crossed the rainbow bridge. He was a good boy and dearly loved. I didn’t expect to have to look for a new puppy this soon. I live in Texas. My previous vizsla came from Oklahoma. Any advice on reputable breeders in Texas (and maybe Oklahoma)? We have a large family so the new pup needs to have a good temperament, especially with kids. I would like a pup that is a good companion as well as a proficient hunter. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My last two are from Bravo Vizsla. Excellent temperaments, and they love to hunt.
Julie is located in Livingston Tx.

Hello, I picked up my new Vizsla from Michael at Rock'n Roz Vizslas - [link excised - moderator] and couldn't be happier. This is my 2nd Vizsla. He answered all my questions (email & text) as well as speaking with me over the phone. I visited his facility when the pups were about 6 weeks of age and met both parents (Izzy & Gunner). Decided then which pup I wanted and returned a couple weeks later to pick up. All paperwork in order and a very easy person to deal with. Tell him that "Stella Rose" sent you!

This breeder's website is a good example of what to look out for when looking for a puppy. The site is superficial - composed mostly of pictures & glowing testimonials. There are links to pedigrees, but so what - unless one researches the ancestors, it only helps to see that there is no inbreeding. The important stuff is missing, mainly health screenings. OFA at a minimum. Nothing about any achievements of breeding stock (field, hunting, show).

I'm not saying to avoid this breeder, but one does need a lot more info than their website has.

When it comes to health screening, the OFA website is public. One can plug in the AKC registration nr of a given dog and see what healths tests have been performed when and with which result. If there is no result, that can be for two reasons: 1. given dog has not had OFA health screening(s) 2. given dog had a poor result and the owner did not approve the result to appear in the public database.
Personally i would not even look at a breeder who has not had performed hip, elbow, thyroid and eye test on at least both parents, preferably i would even like to see results several generations back.

Looks like they have good bloodlines, mixed bloodlines I wouldn’t touch.
I don’t know anything personally about the breeders. We have a lot of breeders in Texas, that the websites are only about promoting puppies. They don’t post much on the adult dogs.
