Hi all,

I have been surfing these forums for a while now and have found them to be very useful :)

I have had my V pup Rossi since easter - he's an awesome little man and loves the fire (winter has just started cranking up here!). I am fortunate that my friend is a dog trainer so I get heaps of advise from her; for those of you out there wondering how to improve training - I thoroughly recommend clicker training! it is awesome; Rossi learnt to sit, drop, spin, back up, shake hands, wait, and go to his mat within the first week of getting him. He is crate trained too.

Does anyone here do Agility with their V? I will be doing this with Rossi, and would be interested to hear from those that do agility.

Cheers
T

I trained my first vizsla puppy in agility as we were concurrently learning obedience. He was between 5-6 months old. The best part was how easy it was to initially train him. The worst part was when he went through "fear stages" and would fall off an obstacle and be afraid to get back on. It would take me weeks to train the fear out of him. At age 2 he developed systemic inflammation and has not trained anything since - he is 9 now and has been the BEST dog ever! We never got to compete in anything and now, that is ok. We are getting a new puppy in about 8 weeks (just born 3 days ago!) and THIS time, I will do obedience with her first and we are not going to start agility until she is 1.5 - 2 years old. My last non-vizsla dog, a border collie mix, was 2 when we started agility and she was never fearful and only fell off one obstacle ever. I think it is a good age for such a demanding sport - I'm also a certified canine massage therapist and hope by waiting we will have a long agility career. :) This is just my experience...have fun no matter what you do. :)

Hi Jensrq,

Thanks for your reply. I look forward to hearing about your new puppy when she/he arrives! I'm not sure when the agility training will start with my little man - I will be guided by my friend on that (she has 8 agility dogs!! -but beardies, not V's) :)

Did you tell them about the forums? ;D ;)
sorry calum I ment there is somebody who lives very close to madabout and they have two v's.
Haven't seen much of those people that live up the street. I think they take them away for walks now, although I may have passed them on the street in the dark coming home a couple of nights ago.
