Food aggression

336 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Bruno13
My 10 year old VizslaV Bruno, is showing signs of aggression towards my 9 month old V puppy Jack during meal times.
I feed both in the kitchen with a good separation in between. At the beginning my older dog was just protective of his plate, but in the last couple of days he has showed more signs of aggression towards the puppy even when I’m just preparing the meals.
The puppy is now afraid of eating if the older one is in the kitchen.
Help with this issue will be greatly appreciated

when it comes to real meantimes (so not just treats) i prefer full separation, so that they can eat in their own pace and lay down to rest afterwards - hence feeding happens mostly in crates for us. in terms of Bruno, i would do a full blood panel, focusing on thyroid and glucose, just as kidney and liver function. any changes in those values may be an explanation for behavior changes, like food aggression / increased appetite.

Thank you, well Bruno is been treated for mast cell tumors, so you probably right. I’m trying to feed them at a larger distance, but I’ll going to try crating the puppy.
