11 month old - right rear leg limp

Hey all

I have been reading these forums all week looking for anecdotal advice that may help me and my 11 month old pup Oakley. I’ve read probably everything on this site about people’s journey through knee injuries, including TPLO’s. I have a specific question for @texasred - Do you mind sharing the vet you went to back in 2012? I read it in one of your comments in this thread:TPLO

Some context on Oakley’s situation: he is a 11 month old vizsla from Rockport Vizslas (we live in Austin). He has been a healthy guy so far but during a bath early on Sunday he struggled with me trying to get out once or twice. His right rear leg was completely lame after that for the entire morning. We went to an emergency vet at 2 PM that day and the X-rays were clear and so was blood work. Vet’s initial impression was it was a ruptured CCL but they did not do a drawer test or any other physical examination (they were running low on staff as Sunday they only run emergency hours). He went on an anti inflammatory and pain meds. He has been on crate rest ever since.

Over the 12 hours after the vet visit he improved dramatically. By the next day he was putting full weight on the leg when walking. It is now day 5 and he only shows a minor ”skip” in his step when prancing around to find a place to relieve himself on leash. I am watching him like a hawk for any other signs of improvement or regression.

I also took him to my main vet (Hill Country Animal Hospital) on Tuesday. They did a full physical including a drawer test and tibial compression tests - he passed both of those (found nothing wrong). They were encouraged by his quick improvement and prescribed 3 weeks bed rest with 5 minute walks starting on week 3.

Long post but am primarily looking for the vet info TexasRed mentioned since you had stated they have the best credentials / track record in the state. Just want to schedule something for him in case they are booked out in the next few weeks.

I ran Jasper up to Texas A&M in College Station when he first hurt it. They also did his surgery.
I don’t even live near College Station, but I’ve always had great experiences with them.

Thank you! That will be a fun trip down memory lane as I went there for undergrad. Appreciate the quick response.
After his rest, you might try to find a good chiropractor in your area. Just to make sure he’s not out of alignment, before going to A&M.
I can’t tell you how many times, one of the dogs had something out of alignment.
