Kedves I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Gibson. I read and re read the entire thread start to finish couple of times and I find this story very uplifting. I am so glad that not only you were able to find a great companion in your V, but that you did so by giving a chance to a rescue dog, giving him lots of love and super live, after what could be considered a failed start with previous owner, whoever he/she was. I wish that you find another great dog, hopeful a V, that with time will become equally great companion to you and your family.

Thank you for sharing your story.

ajcoholic It’s hard to believe how time has passed. My baby is now a few months past 5 years old and our older son is 8 1/2. He’s been wanting a dog and I finally feel ready again.

I’m going to see about finding an adult Vizsla to give a permanent home if I can. It’s crazy I still tear up when I think about my Gibson or look at photos. He was one of a kind... but I know many other dogs are waiting to find a loving family.

Re: Coping with the loss of my best friend

Looking at the pictures of your lovely friend I am reminded of my own who have passed on as well as the agony of the loss. My thoughts and wishes are with you.

He certainly looks happy and well loved, and I believe that those who are lucky enough to receive that in some way return it. Be open.

May you find peace...

I'm so sorry... and if it's any help at all, I do know exactly how you feel. I've been there.

Re: Coping with the loss of my best friend

Today was a bittersweet day. I took my two boys out in the woods, where I used to walk Gibson pretty much every day we were together. It was my first time out on those trails since I lost him.

My older son (4 1/2) wanted to go out there and go for a little hike. I was pushing our 1 yr old in the stroller, and thinking of the thousands (literally, as we used to go there at least once, many days twice) of runs we had in the winter, the summer, in the pouring rain and when it was -40, or +90 out. The swims, getting super muddy, running into bears... so many memories.

It was so nice to see the familiar trails. I know them like the back of my hand. Gibson used to run like heck along the trails, always looking back to make sure I was coming along.

I thought I was doing well, until today. Now I am sad again...

Gib had a Weim friend. A really nice dog. They got along just fine!

Thanks again for letting my share this with everyone.
