Re: Need opinions on lumps!

I just got caught up on all the threads here a literally teared up when i read your Sep 29 post. I can't imagine losing 2 dogs in a month. I hope you and Cash can quickly recover from your loss. Our deepest condolences go out to you guys. I know how hard it is, especially to see your pup be so "lost" with out his buddy.

I would definitely recommend a rescue. Good luck on your search

Re: Need opinions on lumps!

I'm so sorry for your loss! We lost our boy Buck suddenly in July (the one I had posted about with the mast cell cancer, but he died from a blood clot or aneurysm according to our vet) and also lost both of our dogs three weeks apart in 2007. I know how devastating it can be and still cry over Buck a few times a week (actually, right now as I'm typing this!).

I'm also happy to hear that you are considering adopting a rescue. I always start the process soon after a loss, even though it's not the right thing for everyone to do. Our female V was lost without Buck (as we were too) and it was so hard to watch. We recently adopted a 6 year old boy we named Buddy and she is now happy again. We had some rough patches at first, but with patience he has become a good boy and brings us so much joy. He's certainly not Buck, but Buck was not any of the dogs we were mourning when we adopted him. It always amazes me how when you think you just could never love a dog as much as the one you lost, you somehow find room to love the new one, only differently.

I don't know about rescues in California, but I know that New Hope Vizsla Rescue and Show Me Vizsla Club Rescue had quite a few dogs available. I spent a lot of time on the internet searching and it also helped me deal with my grief. Good luck and it does get better!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Made me cry too. Riley and Chuck send puppy kisses though I know that won't lessen the pain. :'(

I am so very sorry for your loss CrazyCash, my Weimaraner died 17 months ago of lymphoma, and I don't think I will ever get used to him not being around....I now have a crazy 18 month Vizsla and loads and loads of very fond memories.....I am thinking of you..

Re: Need opinions on lumps!

Thank you everyone for your kind words! It's been a rough couple of days and I'm still in shock - I keep expecting Cooper to come walking in from the other room. The house seems too quiet with just me and Cash rattling around in here! I still have no idea what happened and my vet is equally as shocked and baffled, but he feels confident that it was something isolated to Cooper and not something contagious that Cash could get.

Now I need to come up with a new dog strategy - I wasn't planning on getting a new dog for years. Now I need to get a new companion for Cash, he's so sad to be alone and he's been sleeping in Cooper's bed nonstop I can't believe that I have to do the puppy stage all over again, Cash is just starting to outgrow it a bit. I would prefer to get a rescue and would love another V or V mix, but they are kind of hard to come by. If anyone knows of one in the Northern CA / Sacramento area please let me know.
