Let sleeping dogs lay!

It took 2 times to learn this lesson.

My male has a very high fight or flight instinct to fight.

Sunday , I walk into the bedroom and he is lying on the bed sleeping. He is having a dream . He is running and woofing at what ever is going thru his mind.

I reached down and gave him a pat. The instant I touched him I knew I screwed up. In a half a heartbeat he was up and on my arm. Another half a heartbeat and he has this terrified look on his face. His tail starts going a mile a minute and he is giving me kisses.

I did the same thing once before but did not learn. Luckily I had a heavy sweatshirt on and he just got a slight peel of skin.

From now on I will not interrupt his dreams!

This is a great lesson in my view and really appreciate sharing it. Dogs are reacting differently to sudden wake up from their deep dreams, just as humans and always good to learn it.

Miksa sleeps in the crate per his choice, and the only thing startling him is a sudden noise coming from outside. Then he has a high pitched bark, followed by getting my hand to lick at thru the crate and an all is well, back to sleep in 20-30 sec.

Bende if he sleeps in crate reacts to sudden noise from outside the same way as Miksa. If falling asleep on couch, floor or bed, when i walk by, he spreads his legs and is ready for touches, especially liking chest area and face rubs.

I respect my boys preferring different sleep habits, i have the space to accommodate it and at the end of the day, we all want to minimize stress and enjoy life as much as possible.
