Fun with our V's $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

My wife and I must be cursed! :-)

We spend more time at the emergency vet than anywhere else.

Our recent adoption Rez just turned 1 We have had her for 2 months.
Already been to the emergency vet 2 times. A couple of weeks ago for 4 stitches in her side.
Yesterday she comes in and her jowl is swollen up bigger than a golf ball size. My wife see's 2 puncture wounds. She got bit but by what? we do have Massasauga Rattlers that I see 1-2 times a year. They are not real big and not deadly (normally). So it is off to the emergency vet again. Steroid shot/Benadryl . They want to keep her overnight for observation. I have got home by now and took our male out for a quick walk. I found a recently departed Possum ( fresh kill) by my shed. I called my wife and with this info they decide to send her home but to keep an eye on her.

This morning she is good to go..

Our Male has been to emergency vet 5 times in the last 2 years for various injuries.
They know his name.

We have been taking them to a Blue Pearl emergency vet. So far my wife and I are very happy with both the care and pricing.. Obviously depends on the vet you get but so far it has been good. Yesterday was $220 The stiches were $325, We had expected a lot more.

We love our V's!

Yup. Injuries will happen when a dog has as much energy as a V. But you are definitely lucky to find a vet with pricing like that. Here in Northern California, I paid $800 for after hours stitches after a coyote encounter. It was on his forearm and the stitches looked like Frankenstein stitches. A lot of the cost was the after hours surcharge, but still, they could have done a better job. And they charge so much f'n money for pain meds an anti biotics. It's really gotten crazy here. I have two dogs now, and after my sweet old GSP goes, I'm sticking with one dog at a time. It's just too costly to keep a V up and running. Like a Ferrari.

Your Blue Pearl must be cheaper, than the Blue Pearls in my area. I'm not complaining, other than one time on pricing. If my dog needs ER care, I know I'm going to pay a ER price.
I think I paid around $500-$600 for them to sedate June, clean/flush a ear wound, and meds.
$700 for stitches a different time.
$11000. Trying to save Lucy. She was worth every penny.
The only time I thought the cost was way over the top. A non ER ortho eval to sedate, and xray hips, and knees. The charge was $1200.
That did not even include bloodwork, as it was done at my vet. What thoroughly upset me, was they did not xray the knees. Our whole conversation was I wanted both to be xrayed. I've been around dogs long enough to know, that both can, and have been included in the same xray.
The ortho vet is very good on surgeries, he just did not understand how important both were to me. At that point, I did not want my dog resedated on a different day. I was too pissed to let them try, and make it up to me.
I didn't post any bad reviews, because all my other experiences had been good.

A friend of mine ended up with 3 rescue dogs, all scooped up from the street throughout the years. Mutts and they mean a lot to her. She is far from being wealthy, before having dogs she saved enough money to get a Harley Davidson. One of the dogs ate something he should have not and needed emergency surgery, Harley Davidson was gone quickly to cover the cost. Another dog needed torn ligament surgery and therapy afterwards, house mortgage got refinanced to cover it without a minute of hesitation.
She is my role model when it comes to providing medical care for my Vs.

Material things aren't really important to me.
If it meant saving a dog, it wouldn't bother me to part with something.
I do have one rule.
We do not mess with the mortgage.
Dogs, and people have to have a place to live.
I don't judge others for doing it. I just wouldn't be able to sleep at night, if I put my home at risk.

I believe we get a volume discount deal. Kind of a bogo type thing.

The vet always tell us up front what the expected cost will be , which really does not matter as we are going to do what ever is necessary to get them fixed up.

What a difference from our 3 previous dogs (labs) which only had 1 emergency visit total amongst them.
