Hello All!

Hi, I have been reading this forum for a few months now, and as I have just put down a deposit on a puppy from an upcoming litter ( Due middle of September) I decided to join. This will be my first Vizsla and my first puppy, so wish me luck. I have had lots of dogs growing up but they were all rescue dogs or we took them in when they were adults. I am looking forward to the challenges of puppyhood. I also think it will be a great lesson in responsibility for my 9 yo daughter, as she can help raise and train the dog. The last dog we owned passed away 5 years ago (Australian Shepherd), so its been a while for us. My wife and I decided to get another dog about 6 months ago and where looking at a bunch of different breeds when a buddy told me about the Vizsla and how great they are as family companions. I had never heard of a Vizsla up until that point so I started my research, including reading a lot of great advice on this forum. After a lot of discussions with the Wife we decided that the Vizsla was the breed of dog for our family. So we met with a few breeders and picked the one with the parents we were most comfortable with. We are all excited, and to be honest a little nervous!. I would like to thank you all for providing great honest answers even thou it was not me asking the questions I got a lot of great advice and I'm looking forward to being able to contribute to this board in the future! I am sure I will be asking a bunch of questions in the coming weeks as I prepare for the arrival of our boy in November. Thanks again.

Congratulations on your your impending new pup.
Tons of fun, tons of work, and totally worth every minute of it.

Two things define you. Your patience when you have nothing, and your attitude when you have everything.

Best of luck. We were first time V owners too in November 2017. We got a male V. And Just last month we got our second V, a female. I've grown up with Labs all my life and still love the breed. But V's are exceptional breeds are extremely loving. Selecting a reputable breeder, giving the right training off the start, provide the proper exercise (at least two 1/2-1 hour exercises a day) and they will be a happy, affectionate and well behaved companion for your family.
