Re: Goodbye old mate.............. you're a champion like your namesake.
Today I was lucky enough to come along on Doohan's final outing. We walked along a track for a short distance...slowly....then down to the river for him to take in all the smells of Deer, Possums, Rabbits, Wombats, Kangaroos and any other animals around. He got to drink from a crystal clear mountain stream and listen while his housemate and my two pups splashed in the water. We took some pics of him cuddled up to his dad on the banks of the river and then headed back.
At 8.00am tomorrow, I will go pop over to his house, grab his housemate and take him for a walk with my two pups, so his dad and he can have some peace in his final moments. His housemate is an exuberant 12 month old pup and he would only make things hectic.
Once this is done and his dad has had enough time, we will be hopping in my car together for his final car ride to the crematorium. Fingers crossed this all goes well. His poor dad has had a really hard time of late. A relationship of 10+ years ended, then 3 overseas work trips in a row, then a bushfire nearly destroying his shed and equipment on the farm and now having to deal with this. I'm going to take my van up to his property next week and stay for a while till the dust settles. Might be nice for him to have someone to have a few beers with!
