Re: Maine Coon Mixes!

Oh, I just hugged my cat. Cat love.

Killy never sprayed or clawed anything. Once he was comfortable with us, the claws never came out. I could grab him turn him over and rub his tummy and never saw any claws. He was stretching when I took the picture.
Once the neighbor kid scared him and that's when he came running inside pooped the smelliest stool and hid for the next 3 days.

Butterfly did the same when we brought Sammy the Vizsla baby home. No cat for 2 months, lived in the basement alone. Lots of therapy and time coaxed him out. Now the cat and the dog can sleep together in the same crate..

I love happy endings

Re: Maine Coon Mixes!

How many of you Vizsla owners have had a dog take claws to the nose? I imagine that is a lesson they learn quickly... unfortunately my cat is unable to teach that lesson :P But I'm assuming the dog knows to back off after a swat or two, right?

Hahaha... that's what we *assumed* would happen when Riley came home. She thought getting clawed was hysterical and took it as a sign that the cats wanted to play. : We ended up teaching the "leave it" command and that's been our biggest help.

Re: Maine Coon Mixes!

OH, if they get dewclawed their personality changes and they tend to become less self secure and also may compensate by becoming more mouthy.
They will have to hunt by mouth instead of just using the claws on the mouse or rat.
I read it's the equivalent of chopping the end of their fingers off along with the nail bed. :'(
That bit of info came after we took the vet's offer to have Butterfly declawed. :'( :'( :'( Bad vet.

Re: Maine Coon Mixes!

Claws rarely came out once they mature. The cat would have to have a very bad day if it was to scratch the owner.
The V would not be scratched much by a mature cat.
Hissing is more likely warning.

Re: Maine Coon Mixes!

Here are my pics of my maine coon Bub. My cat tolerates Ruby very well but my other cat (non maine coon) is scared to death of her. Maybe it is something to do with the breed or even male cats dealing with V's well

Looney - cant find pictures of Bub's tail but it is extremely fluffy. His fur is so soft, like cotton and he never needs brushed. Got to be the most laid back, low maintenance cat I ever had. He just turned 8 yrs old just got weighed at the vet and is 16.5lbs. I was told he needs to lose weight. When I found him as a stray 5 yrs ago he was skin and bones and 13 lbs, just a big boy.
