I think my recently adopted V is UNDERWEIGHT!

Hi all!
I think that my 7 year old V is underweight... I have only had him about 3 days. I am noticing that his ribs are very easily visible, so are the bones in his face and his spine.
He isn’t really bad, however I am concerned for his welfare - his old owners fed him once a day. Our other dog was on two meals a day, so I have bumped Sarge up to breakfast and dinner.
Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on what’s normal for them?

It's hard to tell with that pic, but generally when he stands, you shouldn't see more than a hint of any rib or backbone. https://www.dogbreedinfo.com/vizsla.htm

Feed him a high quality, meat based food and adjust the amount based on how he looks. Start with the recommendations on the bag (probably about 3+/- cups per day).

I have a very thin rescue at my house. I just feed smaller multiple meals a day. For ones just a little underweight, I slowly up their food till I find what works for them.

Congratulations to your new Vizsla.

The feeding once a day does not correlate with underweight. My almost 3 years old also gets his kibble in the evenings, and it was him who simply stopped eating breakfast. He is a working dog type, very active during the day, falling sleep after dinner.

I would not drastically change a diet after 3 days, let him settle. Adding some high quality treats (i.e. cooked salmon in a Kong) may be able to boost him, but sudden changes may actually have an adverse impact.

Hope you can find whatever is best for him:-)

Arya is beautiful! She looks a lot like my sister's Great Dane (mix). I'd post a pic but I haven't quite figured out how yet. I don't know how to drag files on a phone Anyways what breed/mix do you think she is?
