Our first one (Bende) taught us very quickly that his place is in the bedroom, crate right next to us and in fact once he turned around 6 months old we started allowing him to sleep on the master-bed.
During the day when we were not at home, he was in the living room in his crate.
Then we added a second pup, Miksa (at this time Bende was ready to be crate-less in the house) and put a crate for him next to the Bende`s in the living room, and one next to the master-bed. The first evening as Miksa started a little lonely crying in his crate, Bende jumped off from the bed and laid down next to him, problem solved.
So currently our arrangement is: for the day, 2 crates, side by side, same for travel in the car. During the night Miksa in the crate next to the master-bed, Bende mostly on the bed, sometimes lays down next to Miksa on a doggy bed. If we have to travel for work, they stay in their living room crates for the night too, sitter in the guest room.
If your other dog is accommodating, the pup should be also ok with sleeping next to him in a crate. Just need to ensure that the older dog is fine with it, sometimes it takes time for them to open up for a new intruder.
